The probes have an elongated spacer giving them the possibility to bind to avidin or streptavidin. The biotin fragment is hydrophobic
enough to permit the probes to be adsorbed on SepPack C18 cartridges from
aqueous solutions and to be eluted by methanol similarly to glycosides
bearing a "Lemieux-type" spacer.
Structure of the spacer-arm: normal spacer of the ligand plus own spacer (SP) of biotin label -CO(CH2)5NH-; for example the complete structure of 0021-BM is aGlc-O(CH2)3NH-CO(CH2)5NH-biotin.
